Flower language of water hyacinth

Water hyacinth symbolizes everlasting love, and its flower language is the pursuit of love and life until death.

The ornamental value of water hyacinth

Water hyacinth is a floating herb with well-developed fibrous roots and very short stems. Its flowers are light blue and multi-faceted trumpet-shaped. The petals on the top are relatively large, with an obvious bright yellow spot in the center, just like a phoenix eye or the flower spot at the end of a peacock feather, and are very beautiful.

Water hyacinth has a high ornamental value and is often used as a landscaping material in garden waterscapes. It is also a good choice to grow as an ornamental flower at home.

Agricultural value of water hyacinth

Water hyacinth has a strong enrichment effect on various organic elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and calcium, among which the enrichment effect on the macroelement potassium is particularly prominent.

Among the existing ways of utilizing water hyacinth resources, the simpler and more common one is to use it to compost organic fertilizer and produce biogas. It is also possible to directly utilize its dry powder or the ash after burning as fertilizer or soil conditioner.

Water hyacinth can also be used as an excellent feed for chickens, ducks, geese, fish and pigs. It is soft, juicy, tender, delicious and nutritious. It can be chopped, crushed or pulped and mixed with bran to make mixed feed or silage, which can not only improve feed utilization but also kill parasites.

Edible value of water hyacinth

Water hyacinth is cool in nature and has a light taste. It has the effects of clearing away heat and relieving summer heat, promoting diuresis and reducing swelling, and removing rheumatism. It can be used to treat heatstroke, thirst, edema, difficulty urinating, and external application for heat sores.

The dry matter of water hyacinth mainly consists of crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, etc. Its flowers and young leaves can be eaten directly. They taste fragrant and refreshing, and have the effect of moistening the intestines and promoting bowel movements. Indigenous people in Malaysia and other places often use the young leaves and flowers of water hyacinth as vegetables.

Environmental value of water hyacinth

Water hyacinth is a good plant for monitoring environmental pollution. It can monitor the presence of arsenic in water and purify harmful substances such as mercury, cadmium and lead in water.

During the growth process, it can absorb a large amount of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and certain heavy metal elements in the water. Water hyacinth is more effective in purifying industrial wastewater or domestic sewage containing more organic matter.
