How to prune the rubber tree to make it look better when it grows up

When pruning a rubber tree, the cut should be as smooth as possible, and it is best to handle it after pruning. Some juice will flow out from the cut. Try to apply some wood ash to help the plant resume growth.

Rubber tree pruning method

Rubber trees can be pruned in spring in April and May. When the plant grows to 1 meter in height, its upper branches should be pruned and shortened to control the height of the plant and promote the sprouting of side branches, so that the crown maintains a good-looking tree shape.

It is relatively simple to prune the rubber tree. When it grows to 20-30cm, you can pinch and prune it in time, which can promote the differentiation of more lateral buds. And don't discard the cut branches easily. Use granular soil such as river sand to propagate the cuttings, and it will survive in about half a month .

Precautions for pruning rubber trees

1. Short cut:

When pruning rubber trees, be careful. If the stems are too high and the plant shape is not beautiful, the easiest way is to shorten the excess stems. New stems and leaves will sprout from the bottom of the stems, which is very effective for long-term pruning and shaping.

2. Pull branches:

Note that if the stems are bare, you can also pull the branches to make the main trunk become inclined. Many young buds will sprout in the middle and lower part of the stems, and then you can cultivate them according to the desired plant shape.

3. Bud carving:

Note that if the main trunk appears bare, you can also make a horizontal cut on the upper part of the bud, and the latent buds at the lower part will sprout new side branches. Then, with necessary cultivation, the rubber tree can grow into a shape that better suits your requirements.
