Summer cabbage planting time and method

Summer cabbage planting time and method

Summer cabbage planting time

Cabbage seedlings have a strong adaptability to temperature, but there are certain temperature requirements during the heading period. It is best to control it at around 17 degrees, which is beneficial to the formation and growth of leaf balls. Therefore, the summer sowing time is around late July.

Summer cabbage planting method

1. Seed soaking and germination

Soak plump, disease-free seeds in water for about an hour, take them out and drain the water, wrap them with clean, breathable and water-permeable gauze, place them in an environment of 18-25℃ for germination, shake the gauze bag appropriately to allow the seeds to be evenly heated, and sow them when the seed sprouts turn white.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

It is advisable to choose loose, fertile and well-drained land, apply decomposed organic fertilizer and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer, turn the land and make ridges with a ridge width of 1-1.5 meters, plant 2 rows with a plant spacing of 35-40 cm, and maintain 2,500 to 3,000 seedlings per mu.

3. Planting

Sow the sprouted summer cabbage into loose soil, cover it with a thin layer of soil, add appropriate amount of water, keep the soil moist, and provide a semi-shaded growing environment. If the light intensity is very high at this time, shading measures need to be taken.

Precautions for planting summer cabbage

After summer cabbage is planted, control fertilization and watering to promote underground growth. After the seedlings have grown, keep the soil slightly moist to expand the leaf assimilation area and enter the heading period. To meet the growth needs, water frequently and apply fertilizers mainly nitrogen and supplemented by phosphorus and potassium in time to promote rapid expansion of the leaf head in a short time.
