Bougainvillea cutting propagation

Bougainvillea can be propagated by cuttings, which is also the main method of propagation, but we must be careful in choosing branches. Branches that are too tender are prone to rot, and branches that are too old are not easy to take root. Branches with green epidermis are more vigorous and easier to take root.

Bougainvillea cutting time

The best time for bougainvillea cuttings is in spring and autumn because the temperature is neither too cold nor too hot and the environment is more suitable. If you do cuttings in autumn, you can choose September, and if you do it in spring, you can choose between March and April.

How to propagate bougainvillea by cuttings

Choose semi-lignified branches with high hardness and keep the length of about ten centimeters. Remove the leaves at the bottom and only keep the two leaves on the top. Trim an oblique cut at the bottom and soak them in water containing rooting powder for about half an hour. Add some perlite or something like that to the soil to ensure air permeability and water permeability. Insert the bottom of the branch into the soil and water it thoroughly. It is best to add some rooting liquid when watering. Place it in an environment with diffused light and good ventilation. The roots will gradually grow in a month and a half.
