How to propagate rosemary by cuttings

How to propagate rosemary by cuttings

Rosemary can be propagated by cuttings, but rosemary itself has high requirements for environmental conditions for its growth, and cutting propagation has even higher requirements for the environment. If there is a problem with the environmental temperature, humidity, sanitary conditions, etc. during the cutting propagation process, it will cause failure.

Rosemary cutting time

Rosemary is suitable for cuttings in spring from March to April, and in autumn from September to October. The climate is warm and relatively humid during these two periods, and rosemary grows well. Not only can you select good cuttings, but it is also conducive to the survival and rooting of the cuttings. It can also be chosen in winter, but it must be maintained in a higher temperature indoors to avoid frostbite and death of the cuttings due to low temperature. It is not recommended to choose in summer, as too high temperature and too low humidity are not conducive to the survival and rooting of the cuttings.

Rosemary cutting method

Before cutting rosemary, select well-growing, pest-free, semi-lignified tender stems as cuttings, prepare a well-drained, loose and breathable substrate, and disinfect it. Apply rooting powder on the base of the cuttings, insert them into the substrate and compact them, water them thoroughly once, and after cutting, move them to a well-ventilated place with scattered light for maintenance, keep the soil moist, and wait for 3 to 4 weeks for them to take root.

Rosemary cuttings rooting

There are two ways to propagate rosemary cuttings: water cuttings and soil cuttings. Generally, soil cuttings require suitable temperature. In the spring of each year, the climate is warm, which is just the growth period of rosemary. At the same time, prepare loose and fertile soil with good drainage. After spraying water to keep it moist, place it in a shaded place for maintenance, which is conducive to the rooting and survival of the cuttings.
