Cultivation methods and precautions of Ficus microcarpa

Cultivation methods and precautions of Ficus microcarpa

The golden fig has one leaf with multiple colors and multiple forms, which is quite unique and rare in the plant kingdom. It has beautiful appearance, rich colors, and strong adaptability to the environment. It is very easy to grow. However, it should be noted that the juice in the plant contains a certain amount of toxins, so be careful during cultivation.

How to grow golden banyan

1. Soil selection

The Ficus microcarpa is hardy and not picky about soil, but it is best to provide fertile, loose loam rich in organic matter. Potted plants can be grown in leaf mold or pond mud, or in prepared culture soil with 30% river sand, 30% peat soil, 20% coarse branches, and 20% coconut bran.

2. Lighting conditions

Ficus microcarpa likes light, and sufficient sunlight is conducive to promoting its growth and making its leaves look better, but it is not resistant to strong light. It can be slightly shaded during the hot summer and autumn seasons. When viewing indoors, it should be placed in a sunny place to enhance the leaf color.

3. Watering amount

The golden banyan tree is not tolerant to drought and should not be watered too much. Generally speaking, it is sprinkled with water in spring and autumn, but it should be watered every day in summer and every 3-5 days in winter. When watering, do not water its roots, just wet the leaves.

4. Fertilization

In order for the golden banyan to grow better, it is necessary to apply thin fertilizers frequently. During the maintenance period, fertilize the new seedlings every 2-3 weeks and the old seedlings once a week. Do not apply too much fertilizer. Stop fertilizing in winter when the temperature is below 15℃.

Precautions for the maintenance of golden banyan

1. Disease and pest control

If the breeding environment is too dry, the golden banyan tree is prone to aphids and red spiders. At this time, you can spray 1000 times diluted dimethoate for prevention and control. If it is sooty mold, you can spray 500-1000 times diluted carbendazim for prevention and control.

2. Temperature management

Ficus microcarpa is a cold-fearing plant. The suitable growth temperature is between 20-30 degrees. The minimum temperature in winter must not be lower than 15 degrees Celsius. It should be moved indoors and warmed up to prevent cold. Otherwise, the low temperature will easily cause the Ficus microcarpa to shed leaves or die.
