Method for germinating water spinach seeds

Method for germinating water spinach seeds

The purpose of germination of water spinach is to soak the seeds before planting, because the seeds of water spinach are very hard. If they are not treated and sown directly, the seeds are difficult to absorb water, the germination rate is low, or even not germinate. And if it encounters a low temperature rainy season, the seeds are easy to rot. Therefore, farmers soak the seeds for a day before sowing.

Method for germination of water spinach

First soak the seeds in 50-degree warm water, then take them out and soak them in clean water for 30 hours. Then put the swollen seeds into a wet cloth or a constant temperature box for germination. Keep the temperature at around 25 degrees during this period. Generally, the water spinach seeds will germinate in about 5 days, and then they can be sown.

Water spinach seedling planting

The first step is to sow water spinach directly, and it is also suitable for seedling raising and transplanting. The sowing amount per mu is 2-2.5 kg. Germination and broadcasting should be carried out. After sowing, maintain a daytime temperature of 30-35 degrees and a night temperature of more than 15 degrees. Seedlings will emerge after 5-6 days. The daytime temperature should be maintained at 25-30 degrees, and the temperature should be kept dry and wet.

The second step is to select a plot with high terrain, good drainage and ventilation for planting. Water spinach grows fast and has a strong branching ability. It requires more fertilizer and water. Generally, 1500-2000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer and 100 kg of wood ash are applied per mu. Mix the fertilizer thoroughly with the soil and form a bed with a height of 20 cm and a width of 130-150 cm.
