How to plant perilla seeds

Perilla seeds are generally harvested in late September to mid-October. When the branches, leaves and flowers of perilla have withered, the seeds and fruits are ripe and can be harvested. When harvesting, cut off the fruit clusters or the whole plant, tie them into small bundles, and after drying them in the sun for several days, remove the seeds and dry them. Finally, collect the perilla seeds, put them in plastic bags or kraft paper bags, and place them in a dry and ventilated place. They can be sown in the spring of the following year.

Perilla seed sowing time

Perilla seeds prefer to grow in a warm environment, so based on its habits, the most suitable time to plant is in spring. However, in the southern region, sowing can be done around March, while in the northern region, sowing should be postponed to April.

Perilla seed planting method

1. Seed treatment:

   Before planting perilla seeds, select seeds that are free of pests and diseases and soak the seeds in gibberellin solution for about 15 minutes. This will help increase the germination rate of perilla seeds.

2. Soil selection:

When planting perilla seeds, they should be planted in flat land with convenient drainage and irrigation, and the soil should be fertilized with compost, compound fertilizer and diammonium phosphate and mixed evenly with the soil. The tillage depth should be 25-30 cm, and the soil should be fully plowed and harrowed to make deep furrows and high ridges. The width of the ridge should be 1.5 meters, the furrow width should be 30 cm and the furrow depth should be 15 cm. Then you can plant perilla.
