Can peppers be propagated by cuttings?

Can peppers be propagated by cuttings?

There are many ways to propagate peppers. They can be propagated through seeds, but now most of them are hybrids, which can be propagated using pepper seeds left over from the previous season. They can also be propagated through pepper seed seedlings.

Pepper cutting propagation

Peppers can be propagated by cuttings. The soil for cuttings is generally nutrient soil, river sand, peat soil, etc., and the temperature for rooting cuttings is between 18℃-25℃. In low temperature conditions, the flower pots used for cuttings can be wrapped with film to keep them warm. In high temperature conditions, pay attention to shading the cuttings, reducing light, and spraying and watering the cuttings 3-5 times a day.

Pepper cutting time

Pepper is a thermophilic crop. Generally speaking, the time for cuttings is March to June each year. This is the most suitable time for cuttings propagation. Moreover, the survival rate of peppers is relatively high if cuttings are carried out during this period.

Pepper cutting propagation method

The method of propagating peppers by cuttings is relatively simple. You need to choose healthy and strong tops on the colorful peppers, and then the cut length can be between 5-10 cm. After that, you can soak them in rooting water for half an hour. The branches after soaking are easier to take root. The treated branches can be cut into the soil at a depth of about 3 cm. If the cuttings are too deep, it will also affect the rooting of the branches.
