Chayote Growth Environment Conditions and Characteristics

Chayote Growth Environmental Conditions and Requirements

Chayote is a fruit with high nutritional value. Chayote generally prefers to grow in warm, humid and well-lit places. It is generally widely planted in temperate regions, mostly distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Sichuan.

Chayote growing temperature

Chayote likes a warm environment. Generally, the most suitable growth temperature is between 18-25 degrees. Chayote has poor cold resistance and is afraid of freezing. Generally, when the ambient temperature is zero degrees, the stems and leaves of the plant will be frostbitten. When the temperature drops to minus 3 or 5 degrees, the plant will freeze to death.

Chayote Growth Humidity

Chayote likes a humid environment. Generally, the humidity requirements are different in different seasons. In daily maintenance, it is only necessary to water it once every 3-5 days. When the chayote is growing vigorously, it needs to be watered every day. The most appropriate time for watering is in the morning and evening.

Chayote Growing Soil

Chayote is planted as a seed melon. It is generally more suitable to be planted in loose, breathable, fertile, well-drained sandy loam rich in organic matter. It can also be mixed with garden soil.

Chayote Growth Cycle and Process

Chayote usually starts to germinate in January and can be planted in early to mid-March. Chayote blooms twice a year, usually from July to September, and the fruit matures in August to October.
