How to prune pepper trees for high yields

How to prune pepper trees for high yields

When pruning a Chinese prickly ash tree, you need to have a clear idea in mind, grasp the overall growth direction of the tree, then arrange the fruiting branches on each branch and prune according to the growth of the tree.

How to prune a pepper tree

It is more appropriate to prune the Sichuan pepper tree in autumn, that is, after the fruits are harvested. This can reduce the problem of reduced fruit yield due to pruning.

1. When the lower branches of the Sichuan pepper tree compete with the main branches, you need to use supporting or pulling branches to ease the growth of the plant, then lightly hit the head and leave side buds, so that the tree can bear fruit early.

2. After picking the pepper fruits in autumn, you need to make use of the space. When there are large strips at the base, you can first spread them out as auxiliary branches.

3. After that, you need to concentrate nutrients to thin out the flowers, leaving only 5-7 flower buds, leaving some space to cultivate next year's medium and small fruiting branches, which is the guarantee for increasing the amount of fruit.

Tips for Pruning Pepper Trees

1. When pruning a Chinese prickly ash tree, you need to control the density of the branches, that is, the distance between branches must be arranged well, and the growth in the coming year must be taken into consideration. Leaving space for leaves and fruits cannot be ignored.

2. When pruning the Sichuan pepper tree, the side branches must be weaker than the main branches. Some people do not distinguish between the main and secondary branches, which weakens the main branches. This will not achieve the purpose of expanding the external space and is not conducive to the growth of the Sichuan pepper tree.
