How to grow carambola in a pot

Select pot

The size of the container should be proportional to the size of the carambola being planted. Plastic pots or purple clay pots are both good choices.

Prepare nutrient soil

The nutrient soil requires a substrate with good air permeability and water permeability, which can retain both moisture and fertilizer, and has a pH value of approximately 6.0-6.5. You can use fertile pond mud, dry it and mix it evenly with river sand, dry chicken manure and superphosphate in the ratio of 5:3:1.9:0.1.

Basin

The best time to plant carambola in pots is before budding in March or April. Before potting, check whether the holes at the bottom of the pot are unobstructed, and then cover the holes with the convex side of the broken pot pieces facing up to achieve the purpose of ventilation and water permeability without soil leakage. Then spread about 3 cm thick coarse soil particles, and then put in nutrient soil. When planting, you can cut the excessively long and thick roots appropriately to allow the roots to stretch naturally, and then fill in the nutrient soil so that the soil can be in close contact with the roots. Remember to compact it with your hands. The covering depth of the nutrient soil should be about 2-3 cm above the root neck, and a 4-5 cm edge should be left on the soil surface to facilitate watering. After potting, you should water it enough to help it take root, cover the surface of the pot with a layer of straw, and place it under a shade shed. Then water it properly, and after about 10-13 days, you can gradually expose it to light for maintenance.
