Lettuce seed germination method

Lettuce seed germination method

There are many things to pay attention to when germinating lettuce. Lettuce is a plant that likes light, so it is more suitable for a mild climate and is more afraid of high temperatures and frost. The most suitable temperature for lettuce seeds to germinate is 15-20℃. If the temperature conditions do not allow, greenhouse germination can be used. Lettuce is sensitive to the acidity and alkalinity of the soil and is suitable for germination in slightly acidic soil.

Lettuce germination method

1. Air the seeds in the sun for 1-2 hours, then wrap them in gauze and soak them in water for 2-4 hours.

2. Place the gauze in the refrigerator's fresh-keeping layer and let it germinate at low temperature for 3-5 days.

3. On the second day, open the gauze and spray water once, waiting for most of the seeds to reveal tiny white sprouts.

4. After planting the seeds in the ground, cover the seedbed with straw to prevent the seeds from being damaged by heavy rain or exposure to the sun.

5. Remove the straw after five days, then keep the soil moist and wait for the seeds to sprout from the soil.

Lettuce seedling planting

Step 1: Choose a good nursery bed

When growing lettuce seedlings, the soil must be cool, transparent, without any green leafy vegetables, and free of pests and diseases. The soil should be plowed about seven days in advance, and sufficient organic fertilizer should be applied, and then the fertilizer should be thoroughly mixed with the soil.

Step 2: Seed treatment

Before sowing, lettuce seeds must be soaked in a low temperature environment to germinate, so as to break the seed dormancy period. During the germination process, the seeds should be watered with cold water about twice a day. Sowing can be carried out after more than 80% of the seeds turn white.

Step 3: Planting

It is best to sow lettuce in July and August. Before sowing, pour sufficient base water into the soil, then spread the seeds evenly on the seedbed. After sowing, sprinkle about 0.5 cm of nutrient soil to ensure that the seeds have sufficient nutrition. At the same time, pay attention to shade and light work, and then wait for the lettuce seedlings to grow.
