How to cultivate Quisqualis

Light and temperature

The Quisqualis chinensis naturally likes a warm and humid growing environment. It is cold-resistant, likes light, and can tolerate partial shade, but it will grow better if there is sufficient sunlight. When growing Croton tiglium, it is best to allow it to be exposed to sufficient sunlight. It can receive full sunlight or more than 4 hours of direct sunlight every day, so that the flowers can bloom luxuriantly. If the growing environment is too shady, it may cause the plant to grow too tall and reduce flowering. During the breeding process, it is necessary to ensure that the growth environment of the Quisqualis has a suitable temperature, between 20℃ and 30℃. In winter, pay attention to cold protection.

Water and fertilizer management

The Quisqualis prefers a relatively humid growing environment, is not drought-tolerant, and avoids stagnant water. Keep the soil moist, but be sure not to allow water to accumulate in the pot. The quince requires more fertilizer during its growth period. Apply sufficient basal fertilizer when planting, and then apply top dressing. In spring and summer, top dressing should be applied one or two times, and sufficient nutrients should be given to the Quisqualis creeper before flowering to meet the nutrients consumed by the Quisqualis creeper during flowering. In autumn and winter, reduce the frequency of watering and fertilizing the Quisqualis.

There are four main methods of propagating Quisqualis chinensis. It can be propagated by sowing, seedling transplanting, division, cuttings and layering.

Pruning branches is for shaping and better flowering. During the growth process, the branches should be pruned frequently. If the branches of the Quisqualis grow in a messy or too dense manner, you can trim off the excess branches to avoid blocking sunlight and robbing nutrients. Pruning the branches and leaves of the Croton tiglium in winter will help it bloom again next year.
