What vegetables are best to plant now? (Vegetables suitable for planting in April and May)

April and May every year are good times to grow vegetables. You can be sure that the vegetables you grow at home are pollution-free, free of pesticide residues and heavy metals, and most importantly, convenient.

At this time of year, many people plant these six vegetables in their vegetable gardens. They grow fast, are delicious and nutritious, so they never have to worry about food throughout the summer.

1. Chili

Peppers include green peppers, millet peppers, and sky peppers. You can buy special pepper seedlings at the market. It is not recommended to grow seedlings yourself as it is time-consuming and troublesome. Ready-made pepper seedlings only cost a few cents per plant.

The temperature that peppers prefer is between 15-30 degrees. As long as the temperature in your area can reach this range, you can plant them. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, the seedlings will not grow.

Chili peppers have strict requirements for water and do not need to be watered for a long time. They prefer dry soil and are neither water-resistant nor drought-resistant. They are green when immature and red when mature. They can be stir-fried with meat or vegetables. They are spicy and delicious and go great with rice.

2. Water spinach

Water spinach is a widely grown vegetable, more common in the south. The seeds can germinate when the temperature is around 15 degrees. As long as there is sufficient light, it will germinate quickly and grow vigorously. It can be planted or grown in the open air.

If conditions permit, organic soil can also be used for planting, which can greatly increase the yield. In the north, dry land planting is used, while in the south, both dry land planting and hydroponics are used.

Water spinach is suitable for blanching, stir-frying, cold salad, garlic flavoring, and hot pot. The green vegetable looks very appetizing. Water spinach is rich in fiber and is known as the "green elf". It has the effects of laxative, detoxification, lowering blood lipids and losing weight.

3. Eggplant

There must be no one who doesn't like the fresh and delicious eggplant. You don't need too much space to grow eggplant. Just plant about 20 plants and you are guaranteed to have more vegetables than you can eat at home.

As long as the temperature exceeds 15 degrees, the eggplant will enter a period of vigorous growth, changing almost every day, especially after a light rain, the plump and tender stems and leaves will look more energetic.

Like eggplant and pepper, you can directly purchase seedlings, which cost only a few cents per plant. It is not recommended to grow seedlings yourself if you have no experience. Growing seedlings by yourself is costly and difficult to manage.

After eggplant enters the vigorous period, water should be provided in time to fully meet the water demand. Eggplant likes water but is afraid of water. It is necessary to master the correct irrigation frequency. It can be frequent, but not every day. There are many ways to eat eggplant, which can be stir-fried, braised, braised, and matched with meat and vegetables, which is nutritious and delicious.

4. Cucumber

Cucumbers prefer warm environments and don’t like cold weather. The cucumbers we eat in winter are basically out of season and grown in greenhouses, so their taste and nutrition are greatly reduced.

Now is the season, it's time to plant open-air cucumbers. You can directly plant the cucumber seeds, 2-3 seeds in one hole. You need to put up a wooden frame for the vines to climb. The best ground temperature is around 20 degrees.

Cucumbers have a high yield, but also a high demand for water, especially during the fruiting period, which is very important.

Keep the soil moisture at around 80%. It likes moisture but cannot tolerate waterlogging. Do not water it heavily, just wet the soil. Plant it in a sunny place, not under a big tree.

5. Loofah

Luffa likes warmth and is heat-resistant. Higher temperatures are conducive to the growth of stems and leaves. Luffa has a strong climbing ability and can climb more than ten meters. When planting, you must consider the environment and don't climb up the tree, otherwise you won't be able to pick the fruits even if you want to.

When the temperature reaches about 20 degrees, loofah can be planted. The plant spacing should be about 30 cm. A few plants are enough. Loofah bears fruit quickly and has a high yield. Don't water it too frequently, as it will be detrimental to its growth.

Plant 2-3 seeds in each hole, cover with moist soil, add some clean water, and wait for them to germinate.

If you are a careful person, you will also need to make a wooden frame for the loofah vines to climb, otherwise they will grow in a messy way and be difficult to manage. If diseased leaves are found, they need to be removed in time.

6. Tomatoes

Tomatoes and tomatoes refer to a kind of vegetable, which is nearly spherical, fleshy and juicy. Tomatoes prefer a temperature of around 20 degrees, not too high.

In mid-May, large-scale planting can be carried out. Choose soil with strong fertilizer and water retention capabilities, irrigate frequently, and pay attention to drainage in summer.

You can grow tomato seedlings yourself, but it is recommended that you buy ready-made seedlings. It is simple and convenient, and you can plant them as soon as you get home, saving a lot of trouble.

Scrambled eggs with tomatoes is a classic popular dish. After May, tomatoes are worth trying.

In addition, there are many stem and leaf vegetables, such as amaranth, spinach, Chinese cabbage, sweet potato seedlings, etc., and vegetables that need to climb, such as bitter gourd and cowpea, etc., which can all be planted and managed regularly, and there will be unexpected harvests.
