How to plant golden bells

1. Growth habits of golden bell flower

To grow golden bells, you must first understand its growth habits. It likes sunlight, but can also tolerate shade. It likes a warm and humid environment. Although it has strong vitality, it is not cold-resistant. However, its requirements for soil are not high. It can survive in soil that does not contain enough nutrients. But of course, it is best if the soil is fertile and acidic. The golden bell has a little more branches, so you don’t have to worry about frequent pruning, as it can withstand it.

2. Planting Method

This flower is usually propagated by cuttings. Its flowering period is from May to October, so we can take cuttings from June to August, and then use 1-2 year old strong branches or current year soft young branches as cuttings, about 10-12cm long, remove the lower leaves, and insert them into the soil 1/2 or 1/3 deep. Water when you are done, keeping the soil moist.

After being propagated by cuttings, the golden bell flower has a strong ability to grow in the spring. If the branches are grown in the same year, they will be emerald green, relatively soft, and not obviously lignified. Perennials will be gray or gray-brown. The 2-year-old plant can grow to about 2 meters, and the diameter of the stem will be 2-3cm. This kind of flower has two types of leaves, palmate and oval, and the shape of the leaves is as its name suggests. Why does the same leaf have two different appearances? That is caused by the different growing environments. For example, when the plant grows in a sunny place with sufficient light and is strong enough, the leaves are generally palm-shaped; but when the plant does not receive enough light and does not grow well enough, the leaves will be oval.

3. Management of Golden Bell Flower

1. Prune branches and leaves. When the plants of golden bells are still relatively small, you can trim their tops slightly. This will increase the light exposure area and produce more side branches so that the side branches can grow well, thereby expanding the crown and promoting flowering.

2. Water and fertilize. After the golden bell cuttings are taken, they will take root in 25-35 days. Pay attention to watering and shade when you just plant it. The soil should be fertile, moist and well-drained loam.
