Lithops is also called "butt flower" by many flower lovers. It is petite and cute in appearance and is deeply loved by many flower lovers. Lithops belongs to the succulent plant of the Aizoaceae family.

Most of the succulents we raise at home are Crassulaceae. Compared with Crassulaceae, Aizoaceae succulents are more interesting to raise and their maintenance value is much higher than that of Crassulaceae.

What are the rules for double-headed Lithops?

The longer the Lithops are grown, the higher their value will be. During the entire growth cycle, Lithops can be divided . After three years of growth, one Lithops can be divided into two.

This is also what we usually call Lithops growing into twins. In fact, they are not twins, but its differentiation.

The more differentiated the Lithops are, the higher their ornamental value will be, and the price of the flower itself will also increase accordingly.

The lithops bought at the flower market should be kept at home for 2 to 3 years. If nothing unexpected happens, the lithops can split, and they have a molting period every year.

It will shed its outer skin, and the young inside will grow up. Lithops grows continuously by shedding its skin, and it only sheds its skin once a year, so its growth cycle is very long .

Do I need to separate two succulent plants of Lithops?

Lithops looks very similar to small stones, but it is a very special succulent plant.

It is a very normal phenomenon for Lithops to develop double heads . If it develops double heads, just let it continue to grow .

Many friends will ask, do Lithops need to be separated after the double heads burst?

In fact, it is possible. As long as the skin of the Lithops is completely removed, the double-headed Lithops will be two independent plants . So you can dig them out of the soil and plant them separately, which is equivalent to having two Lithops.

How to grow Lithops to easily reach the double state

If you want to grow multi-headed lithops, there is no special secret or maintenance method, it just requires gradual polishing through practical experience.

However, it is still a little difficult to raise Lithops into head-exploding twins. It is not something that can be raised casually. If you want to raise twins, you must pay attention to the following tips:

First, soil

The soil used for growing flowers is the most important , and Lithops is no exception. If you want to grow twins, the choice of soil is crucial. The soil used for Lithops must ensure water permeability, air permeability, and maintain humidity.

Don’t think it’s complicated, it’s actually very simple. Just divide the soil for Lithops into 3 layers.

1. Granular soil can be used as the bottom layer of soil. It must be permeable and not waterlogged. Granular soil has such characteristics that it will not accumulate water, is breathable, and can provide moisture. Generally, Akadama soil can be used.

2. The middle layer is more important. In addition to being breathable and water-permeable, it also has the function of moisturizing and providing appropriate nutrition.

Generally, you can use a mixture of peat soil, river sand, perlite, vermiculite, etc. This kind of soil will not accumulate water or rot the roots, which is conducive to the growth of lithops.

3. The requirements for the topsoil are relatively simple. It mainly serves a decorative purpose. It is required not to accumulate water and have good air permeability. You can choose some good-looking soil to spread on the surface.

Second, temperature

Lithops are native to Africa. They like warm environments, especially in winter. They must be kept warm in winter. It is best to use a greenhouse environment, otherwise the low temperature will frostbite the lithops.

Third, illumination

Lithops is a light-loving plant and has a relatively large demand for light. It can be allowed to get sufficient sunlight in most seasons, but it needs to be given some sunlight at noon in summer to avoid burns.

Fourth, water and fertilizer management

Lithops are relatively drought-resistant and do not require much water. In hot summer weather, watering once a week is enough. If Lithops is molting, do not water it to avoid rotting.

As for fertilization, you can fertilize once every half a month, use thin liquid fertilizer, and don't pour it on the leaves to avoid hurting the Lithops.
