What fertilizer can make garlic grow big and high yield (the best fertilizer for growing garlic)

Shandong garlic is famous both at home and abroad! Scientific fertilization is the key technical measure to grow good garlic. It's time to plant garlic again.

Autumn-sown garlic can only safely overwinter when it grows 5 to 7 leaves before winter. This requires that the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River be sown between late September and mid-October.

What fertilizer to use for garlic planting?

We know that autumn-sown garlic is sown directly using seed cloves. Since it is a shallow-rooted overwintering crop, it also has its own specific fertilizer requirements and characteristics in fertilization.

△ In the selection of plots

Choose sandy loam, loam or light clay loam that is rich in organic matter, loose and breathable, and has strong fertilizer and water retention and drainage capabilities for planting. Such plots are conducive to the growth of garlic.

△In terms of nutrient ratio

Garlic requires many types of nutrients for its growth and development, including both large-scale nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as medium and trace nutrients such as sulfur, boron, copper, zinc, etc.

It has been determined that every 1,000 kilograms of garlic produced requires 4.5 to 5 kilograms of pure nitrogen, 1.1 to 1.3 kilograms of phosphorus pentoxide, and 4.1 to 4.7 kilograms of potassium oxide. The required medium and trace nutrients can be mainly met through the soil and applied farmyard manure.

△ In terms of fertilization method

The main method is to apply basal fertilizer at the time of sowing, supplemented by topdressing during the growth period. Since garlic is a shallow-rooted crop, it is better to apply fertilizer shallowly rather than deeply. Basal fertilizer is generally applied when making ridges and preparing the land after deep plowing and before sowing.

Topdressing should be carried out in stages, chemical fertilizers should be applied in furrows, and organic fertilizers should be applied mainly by flushing. Topdressing should be combined with tillage and watering.

△ In terms of fertilization plan

Nutrients should be matched as needed to achieve a combination of organic and inorganic nutrients, and should be applied in batches and in stages to achieve a balanced and continuous supply to ensure the healthy growth of garlic and increase the yield and quality of garlic bulbs and garlic stalks.
