High-yield planting technology of cucumber

Cucumber is a popular vegetable variety, which is favored for its rich nutritional value and wide range of uses. It is not only a delicious food, but also a natural beauty mask, especially loved by many women. In summer, many girls like to apply cucumber slices on their faces to achieve the effect of replenishing moisture. For growers, what they pursue is high yield and high quality of cucumbers. Let’s learn together the high-yield cultivation technology of cucumbers.

1. Seed disinfection

Select cucumber seeds with full grains (put the seeds in the sun for 1-2 days in advance to improve seed activity), soak them in 55℃ warm water for 10 minutes, stirring constantly to maintain the water temperature. After soaking, scrub off the mucus on the surface of the seeds to eliminate most of the pathogens. If the planting area is large, soak the cucumber seeds in 100 times formalin solution for 15 minutes, and then rinse them with water to avoid affecting germination.

2. Seed germination

Soak the processed seeds in clean water for 3-4 hours, then wrap them with wet gauze and place them in an environment of about 25℃ for germination. When 60% of the seeds turn white, they can be sown.

3. Prepare nutrient soil

The seedbed can be made of 6 parts of fertile garden soil, 4 parts of decomposed farmyard manure (such as pig manure, horse manure, etc.), add appropriate amount of wood ash and triple compound fertilizer , mix well and make nutrient soil. This kind of soil has high organic matter content and is loose, which is conducive to the development of seedling root system.

4. Strictly control planting density

When the cucumber seedlings have 4-5 true leaves and the average daily temperature is stable above 15℃, they can be transplanted. Choose soil rich in organic matter and apply 2,000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure and 30 kg of triple compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer. Pay attention to controlling the density to avoid flower and fruit drop and diseases and insect pests due to overcrowding.

High-bed cultivation is adopted, with bed height of more than 15 cm and bed width of 1.2 meters. Two rows are planted in each bed, with row spacing of 60 cm, plant spacing of 30 cm, and bed furrow width of 30 cm. It is best to cover the ground with mulch, which is beneficial for keeping warm, retaining moisture, preventing weeds, improving soil structure and reducing pests and diseases.

5. Watering Scientifically

Cucumbers prefer moist soil. Water the seedlings sufficiently for planting in the early growth stage and irrigate the soil thoroughly when transplanting. After 7 days, water the seedlings to help them grow. After 10-15 days, water them for the third time to promote flowering and fruiting. Water the melons every 5 days during the peak period to avoid affecting the yield and quality.

6. Reasonable fertilization

In addition to applying sufficient base fertilizer, apply "seedling-enhancing fertilizer" 10 days after the cucumber seedlings are planted, and apply 5 kg of urea or 1,000 kg of decomposed manure water per mu. During the flowering and fruiting period, apply 25 kg of triple compound fertilizer. During the peak period of fruit bearing, use "80 grams of potassium dihydrogen phosphate + 10 milliliters of 0.01% brassinolide" per acre, dilute with 30 kilograms of water and spray on the leaves, spray once every 7-10 days, and spray 2-3 times in total.

7. Pruning and pinching

Pruning and pinching can improve field ventilation and light transmission and reduce nutrient waste. If the main vine is bearing fruits, remove all side branches. If the side vines are bearing fruits, leave 1-2 leaves and pinch the tips. Cut off old leaves, diseased leaves, yellow leaves and diseased fruits to reduce nutrient waste and enhance ventilation and light transmission.

8. Scaffolding

Ten days after transplanting, build a trellis for the cucumber seedlings, using a herringbone trellis with the bamboo poles 8-10 cm away from the roots of the plants. Tie the vines in the afternoon, once every 2-3 sections.

In short, although many people like to grow cucumbers, problems such as severe flower and fruit drop, and no fruiting may occur during the planting process. But as long as we follow the high-yield cucumber cultivation technique, we can easily cultivate high-yield and high-quality cucumbers.
