1. Viewing time

Shexian Zhuangziling is located in Shexian County, Hebei Province. In autumn, the mountain is covered with red and yellow leaves, which is very dazzling. Usually, the time to view red leaves starts from early to mid-October and the viewing period lasts about a month, extending to mid-to-late November. The red color of red leaves is mainly affected by the climate, so the viewing period varies every year, either earlier or later, which is all normal.

2. Reasons why red leaves turn red

The leaves contain not only chlorophyll, but also anthocyanin, lutein and carotene, but the content of the latter three is relatively low, so people generally cannot see them. After entering autumn, the temperature will slowly drop, and the chlorophyll in the leaves will be decomposed into the roots, trunks and other parts. When the chlorophyll content in leaves is low, the remaining pigment content is high, so the color will change. Moreover, the low temperature in autumn will synthesize anthocyanins, and when anthocyanins meet acidic cell fluid, they will turn red.

In addition, sunlight will also affect the yellowing of leaves. Under normal circumstances, the location on the top of the mountain is better, so if growing in a place with good sunlight, the leaves will turn red earlier. The sunlight at the foot of the mountain will be weaker, so the color change will be slightly delayed.
