Will succulents grow flower swords in winter (Why do succulents grow flower swords)

Why do succulents grow flower swords in winter?

⑴ The dormancy of succulent plants is not obvious in winter:

Most succulents have their main growing season in spring, autumn and early winter, while their flowering period is mainly concentrated in late spring and early summer. They have the characteristic of short dormancy during the high temperature period in summer.

In contrast, the phenomenon of winter dormancy is not obvious, especially in areas with relatively warm winter climates such as the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, coastal Fujian, and Guangdong and Guangxi regions. Succulents can still grow normally in winter, so winter flowering cannot be ruled out as being affected by ambient temperature.

⑵ Winter species prefer a relatively cool environment:

There are tens of thousands of varieties of succulents, which are divided into spring and autumn types, summer types, winter types, etc. Different varieties have different adaptability to environmental temperatures. Among them, winter types prefer a relatively cool growing environment, so winter flowering is also affected by their own growth cycle.

⑶Differences in growth environment and breeding habits:

Under different breeding environments, different lighting conditions, soil preparation and care methods will also result in different states.

Some flower lovers have sufficient sunlight, proper soil, and the habit of fertilizing. Succulent plants have well-developed root systems, vigorous growth, and a higher probability of flowering. Avoiding frequent flower swords of succulents can reduce the intake of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Should the flower stems of succulents be cut in winter?

If you encounter the problem of succulents blooming again, don't worry about it. If you want to appreciate the process of flowers blooming and falling, just keep them. You only need to cut off the remaining flowers in time and apply thin fertilizer when the flower stems tend to wither .

Flower lovers who pursue good condition and hope that the plant shape will remain compact and the leaves will be relatively plump can cut off the flower stems as soon as they grow out . This will help reduce nutrient consumption and achieve better nutritional growth.
