Daffodil planting soil

Many flower lovers have seen daffodils. They come in various colors, mainly yellow, white, orange, and pink. There are many varieties, beautiful flower shapes, and melodious fragrance, which are loved by many people.

However, if you want to grow daffodils every year, you need to be careful and patient. But when planting, you need to tell your family, because the leaves of daffodils look like garlic sprouts, so don't eat them by mistake.

Daffodils prefer acidic soil. If the soil is too alkaline, the roots of the daffodils will slow down their growth and they will not bloom easily.

Therefore, when we first grow daffodils, we must use slightly acidic soil. If we want to change the soil for the daffodils in the middle, we must also choose acidic soil.

The best soil combination is mainly leaf humus , with some soil specially used for growing daffodils on the market. Then mix some peat soil. This kind of soil not only ensures sufficient nutrients, but is also relatively breathable, which is very suitable for the growth of daffodils .

We can also put a thin layer of fallen leaves on the potting soil, so that the daffodils will grow more vigorously and the flowers will be more beautiful.

Planting methods and precautions for daffodils

If I want to plant daffodils, I usually choose November in winter. After a winter of germination, they will quickly sprout and grow leaves in spring.

Daffodils are planted with bulbs, so we have to choose healthy bulbs. If the bulbs have mold spots, we can soak them in a solution of chlorothalonil for half an hour to disinfect and sterilize them, and then bury them in the soil after they are dry.

The soil is generally fertile and breathable, and the resistance of the bulbs is relatively weak.

If there is no fertilizer to provide nutrients, its rooting speed and subsequent germination and leaf growth will be affected. If the hydrophobicity is weak, the soil will easily remain moist for a long time when watering, which will rot the roots.

You can mix nutrient soil with perlite, flame stone, coal blocks, etc. This kind of soil is nutritious and breathable, which is better for the development of daffodils.

Generally, the depth of soil application should be deeper, usually about 10-15cm. If it is too shallow, the fine roots of the bulb rhizome cannot be covered, which will affect its growth.

In the south, the flowers will germinate half a month after the planting date. In the north, the temperature is relatively low, so the flowers will germinate in the spring of the second year at the latest. Everything revives in spring, so the flowers grow very fast, and they will bloom in March and April.

Daffodils are suitable for being placed in a semi-shady environment, and generally receive 4 hours of diffuse light every day for photosynthesis.

Usually keep the soil moist, and when watering, follow the principle of watering when it is dry and watering thoroughly.

During the growth period, you can use potassium dihydrogen phosphate to water the edge of the flower pot every two weeks to promote flowering. At the same time, water it in time the next morning to dilute the fertilizer.

The flowering period of daffodils is generally about 20 days , after which the leaves and petals will gradually become soft and droop, and they will enter a dormant period around June .

To prevent mildew, do not water too much and keep the plants dry. Some daffodils can even sprout again in autumn.

When all the leaves begin to wither, dig out the bulbs, seal them, and store them in the refrigerator (maintained at 5°C). Wait until the temperature drops, such as in autumn or winter, and then take them out and plant them again.
