When is the best time to repot figs?

Spring is the best time to repot figs, usually around the Qingming Festival in spring.

When the temperature remains above 18 degrees Celsius for about 10 days in spring, the survival rate of figs can be basically 100% if the pot is changed .

The climate in spring is mild and the air is very humid, which can create good growth and recovery conditions for figs that love high humidity.

So why do some people say that autumn is also suitable for repotting figs? Autumn is a period of vigorous growth for figs after they stop growing in summer. At this time, the cell activity is enhanced, so it is also suitable for repotting figs.

However, when changing pots in autumn, the humidity is far from reaching the requirement of more than 55% . In autumn, special attention should be paid to the problem of moisturizing. But I personally think that spring is the best time to change pots.

Fig repotting steps and precautions

1. The flowerpot you choose should be one size larger than the previous one. As the fig grows, its trunk becomes larger, its branches increase, and its root system increases. Therefore, a larger flowerpot can hold more soil and provide nutrients for the growth of the fig.

2. When repotting, it is recommended to use tap water to rinse the roots and remove them from the pot. The roots of figs are semi-fleshy and easily scratched and torn. Using clean water to rinse and remove them from the pot can avoid damage to the roots.

3. Before potting, you should first trim some long branches and thin branches to reduce the consumption of water and nutrients. The root system should be properly combed and pruned, the dense roots should be cut down, and the long roots should be shortened.

4. It is recommended to use mixed soil for potting. It should be loose and breathable, not compacted or waterlogged, and slightly acidic and lightly fertile. It is recommended that you mix one-third of each of garden soil, humus soil, and freshwater river sand, and add one-tenth of organic sheep manure soil.

5. After repotting, keep it in a bright and well-ventilated place. When new buds emerge and the first leaf matures, slowly increase the light. Generally, 3 hours is recommended. After one month, move the pot to a place with sufficient light.
