Podocarpus likes warm and humid climate, and the suitable temperature for growth is 15-28℃. It has weak cold resistance and strong shade tolerance. It likes well-drained and moist sandy loam. It has strong adaptability to soil and can survive on saline-alkali soil. It is generally repotted every 2 years.

Luo Han tree cultivation method

The best time for transplanting is in spring, March or April. Small seedlings need to be brought with soil, and large seedlings need to be brought with soil balls. They need to be placed in semi-shade for maintenance during the hot summer season, and pay attention to cold protection in winter.

Watering method: Keep the soil moist during the growing season, water thoroughly when the soil is dry, drench thoroughly in the morning and evening in midsummer to prevent the leaves from wilting, and keep the soil dry in winter.

Fertilization method: Apply well-rotted organic fertilizer as base fertilizer when repotting, apply thinly several times during the growing season, apply well-rotted organic fertilizer in February-March and September-November, and apply Panax notoginseng fertilizer and water 3-4 times.

Pruning method: It is best to remove the flower buds in time when flowering to avoid consuming nutrients. For shaped bonsai, attention must be paid to pinching and pruning to prevent the branches and leaves from growing too long to maintain the original posture. Podocarpus rarely has diseases and insect pests, but you should pay attention to the prevention and control of red spider mites in the hot and dry summer. Red spider mites gather near the veins and leaf edges of Podocarpus leaves and on young branches to suck juice. The prevention and control method is to spray some insecticides for treating red spider mites such as pyraclostrobin, hexythiazolin, fenbutatin, etc. during the high incidence period of red spider mites (May-September), spray once every 10 days.
