What vegetables are suitable to grow in July and August?

Although August is close to the beginning of autumn, it is still okay to plant some leafy vegetables with a short maturity period. Generally, leafy vegetables can be harvested in one month, which is just the right time to harvest in September, so you should still plant some.

1. Chinese Cabbage

The beginning of autumn is the right time to plant cabbage, and it can be harvested in November. Cabbage seedlings will emerge after 3 days, and the first thinning will begin after 10 days. At this time, the seedlings are still too small to be eaten.

After the second thinning, the seedlings have grown a lot and can be eaten as cold dishes, in soups, or cooked into noodles.

After another 10 days, we will thin out the seedlings for the third time. At this time, they have grown very big and can be used as fillings for steamed buns, dumplings, etc., so we can eat small cabbages for a whole month, and we can also harvest large cabbages in November.

2. Lettuce

Lettuce matures in about 50 days after planting and can be harvested in October. It can be broadcast or direct-seeded. Sow 2 cm shallowly and keep the soil surface moist for 1 week. Thin out the seedlings after emergence, and transplant them when they grow more than 3 true leaves. Start harvesting in batches after one month.

3. Chrysanthemum

The growth temperature of Artemisia tuber is suitable for 20~25℃. It is sown in mid-August. The weather becomes cooler in September, which is suitable for the growth of Artemisia tuber. Many people like to eat it, which is suitable for cold salad or hot stir-fry.

4. Rapeseed

After the summer heat is over in August, it is still quite hot at noon, but a little cool in the morning and evening. This is also suitable for the growth of rapeseed. Use more nitrogen fertilizer for rapeseed. Water it once in the morning and evening when it is hot at noon, and control the amount of water.

5. Cherry Radish

Choose loose and breathable soil, add organic fertilizer and turn it over deeply. After drying for 2 days, make ridges for planting. First, dig a 5-cm deep furrow and water it thoroughly. Sow the seeds along the furrow and cover them with soil. Seedlings will emerge in 3-5 days and can be harvested in batches.
