How to grow potted azaleas at home and make them bloom more

Rhododendron is not difficult to grow. As long as we take care of it properly, it can grow normally and bloom in our home every year. Today we will talk about how to grow rhododendron.

Suitable soil

The better the soil, the better the plants will grow. For domestic azaleas, you must choose loose, fertile, acidic soil. Azaleas can grow better in acidic soil, and the pH value of the soil should be controlled between 5.5 and 6.5. The drainage and air permeability should be strong, because the roots of azaleas are relatively delicate, so the soil must be suitable.

Watering

The root system of azalea is very delicate, with very few thick roots. When watering, you must control the amount of water. Too much or too little will affect the growth of the azalea.

Azaleas are afraid of dryness and waterlogging, so to water it, we can dig it with our hands. When its soil is dry to about two or three centimeters, it is best to water it at this time.

If you water too much, the roots of the azalea will be soaked in water, making it impossible for the roots to breathe and causing root rot. If you water too little, the branches and leaves will shrink and fall off. So just keep the soil moist.

Do not expose to the sun

In terms of light, azaleas, especially the Anku series azaleas, like sufficient light, so they must be maintained in light for at least 5 hours a day .

In an environment with plenty of sunlight and meeting the lighting conditions, it will perform better and grow vigorously. Although it can also grow in shady places, it will affect its flowering, resulting in a decrease in the number of flowers or even no flowering.

However, remember not to overexpose potted azaleas to the sun, especially in the summer, as they may be easily burned by direct sunlight.

However, if placed in a dark place for a long time, it will affect the growth of the plant, so it is best to place the azalea potted plant in a place with sufficient scattered sunlight indoors.

Fertilize regularly

Rhododendrons like fertilizers more, but they cannot adapt to fertilizers with too high concentrations, so don't apply too much fertilizer each time.

In February and March each year, some nitrogen and potassium-based light fertilizers can be applied once every ten days to promote the growth of branches and leaves. During the flowering period from April to June, phosphorus fertilizers should be applied once a week, but the amount must be controlled.

Repotting and root pruning

If the potted azalea grows well, it will grow up very quickly. At this time, you need to change the flowerpot according to the size of the plant.

At the same time, it is also important to replace the potting soil with new nutritious ones and trim off the dead and rotten roots, so that the azalea can grow better and faster.

Matters Needing Attention in the Maintenance of Potted Azalea

1. Pest and disease control

Diseases : root rot, brown spot, black spot, etc. The diseased branches and leaves should be cut off and sprayed with pesticides to prevent recurrence.

Pests : Common ones include red spiders, aphids, etc. Use a damp rag to wipe off the pests, and then spray pesticides to kill the larvae.

2. Ventilation environment

To keep azalea well, good ventilation is necessary because it likes high air humidity. In a well-ventilated environment, you can spray its leaves with clean water in the morning and evening to maintain air humidity. If the air humidity is too dry, it will cause its leaves to dry, turn yellow, and fall off.
