The lollipop rose is actually a small tree rose, named because its overall shape looks like a lollipop. Generally speaking, we call small and thin tree roses lollipop roses, and the rootstock for grafting is usually rose pole . Because roses have complete vitality, a relatively developed root system, good disease resistance, and a good affinity with roses, they are easy to survive after grafting, so we often use rose stems as rootstocks when grafting lollipop roses. When grafting lollipop roses with rose stems, there are not many requirements for the thickness and length of the rootstock . Personally, I often use rose stems with a height of 50-80 cm and a thickness of 0.8-1.2 cm when grafting. If the stem is thin, you can use a wooden stick to support it. If the rose stem is short, it will not have much impact on grafting the lollipop rose. If my rose stem is relatively thick and long, with a thickness of more than 2 cm and a length of more than one meter , I will consider grafting it into a tree rose, a slightly larger tree rose. So from the above situations, if you want to cultivate small lollipop roses, rose stems are better. Grafting is easier and has a higher survival rate. Generally, rose stems are recommended for personal grafting . Although Osmanthus fragrans is also a member of the Rosaceae family, its affinity with the rose is weaker. Many flower lovers have reported that the survival rate of grafting with Osmanthus fragrans is not high . Generally, the roses grafted with Osmanthus fragrans should be called rose trees, or tree roses, because Osmanthus fragrans are generally relatively thick, with a thickness of 3-10 cm, or even thicker. After grafting, it really becomes a big rose tree. At this point it can no longer simply become a lollipop rose. So if you want to graft it into a large tree rose, then the mountain wood rose is more suitable . When it comes to cuttings between rose stems and osmanthus fragrans, rose stems are easier to survive. For novices doing cuttings or even grafting, I still recommend using rose stems. Cuttings are easy to survive, grafted plants are easy to survive, and they are also easy to cultivate and maintain in the later stage. Rose stems are also relatively cheap, costing only a few yuan each, but a mountain osmanthus tree costs dozens of yuan. Rose stems can be grafted onto roses using common grafting methods, including bark grafting, bud grafting, T-bud grafting, and double tongue grafting, all of which have a good survival rate. Because the stems of Osmanthus fragrans are relatively thick and the bark is relatively thick, it is generally grafted using bark grafting. Methods such as bud grafting are not suitable here . |
