What to do if Clivia root rots

What to do if Clivia root rots

1. Reduce watering

Reason: If you water the Clivia too much at one time or water it too frequently, water will accumulate in the soil. The appearance of stagnant water will reduce the oxygen content in the soil. Once the oxygen content decreases, the root cells of Clivia will switch from aerobic respiration mode to anaerobic respiration mode and produce ethanol. If ethanol cannot be discharged in time, it will cause the roots of the Clivia to rot.

Solution: Raise the flower pot and place it in a place with good ventilation, wait for the moisture in the soil to evaporate, and then reduce the amount and frequency of watering. If the situation is more serious, you can dig out the plant, cut off the damaged roots, replace half of the soil and replant it.

2. Change the soil

Reason: To grow Clivia, you need to use soil with strong air permeability. If the air circulation of the soil is insufficient, the oxygen concentration in the soil will be very low, which will cause root rot.

Solution: Remove the plant from the soil, then plant it in new soil with good air permeability and maintain it slowly.

3. Scientific fertilization

Reason: If uncomposted fertilizer is used for Clivia, the fertilizer will be decomposed by microorganisms in the soil. A large amount of heat will be released during this process. If the heat cannot be dissipated, it will affect the root system of the plant.

Solution: Use plenty of cold water to water the Clivia to wash away the fertilizer, or simply replace the soil with new one, and then fertilize and maintain it scientifically.
