How to deal with rose branches stung by stem beesFlower lovers who like to grow roses may have encountered this: from June to August every year, a strange phenomenon will occur on the rose leaves. The leaves become serrated, as if they were bitten by something. You can't see anything during the day, but this is actually a common pest of Rosaceae flowers, the leafcutter bee. They prefer plants of the Rosaceae family, and their larvae mainly eat leaves and tender stems in groups. Last year, I had a rose, but I discovered it a little too late, and the leaves had been eaten up. ① Cut off the poleThe eggs of leafcutter bees are usually laid in the wood of roses. They are brown on the outside and will hatch into larvae in about 15 years. So when we find its eggs, it is best to cut off the stems to prevent the spread of pests, because they hatch very quickly, and in a month, they may burst out completely. By then, your rose will be like the rose I had last year, with all its leaves and tender shoots eaten away. ② Manual removalWe can also choose not to cut off the rose stems, but choose to remove them manually. We can use a knife to scrape off the insect eggs, but be careful to scrape them cleanly, otherwise the eggs will hatch into larvae and continue to eat the rose. ③ Kill leafcutter bees with drugsWe use some drugs to kill leafcutter bees, such as imidacloprid. We use a 2000 times solution of imidacloprid for spraying, once every 7-10 days, and it usually takes three times to be effective. When spraying the pesticide, you must also grasp the timing. It is better to spray it during the larval stage. Once the scales are formed, the pesticide will not work on it. At this time, you can only remove it manually or cut off the branches. ④ Cut off branchesIf there are serious infestations of leafcutter bee eggs on the rose stems, it is better to cut them off in time to kill the pests thoroughly and prevent them from resurfacing. ⑤ Insecticide remediesAs for the folk remedy for killing insects, if you don’t want to buy medicine or feel that the medicine smells bad, you can use a drop of laundry detergent or a drop of wind oil plus 500ml of water, spray it once a day, the effect is also good. When caring for roses, there are many diseases and pests. In addition to leaf-cutter bees, scale insects, red spiders, etc. are also common pests. We must prevent them early, detect them early and treat them early, otherwise it will lead to serious consequences. Raising roses seems simple, but it is not simple. Medicine and fertilizer are indispensable. |
