Why do the buds of cutting roses turn black? (The cutting roses turn black and die soon after germination)

After the rose cuttings, the leaves were very green, but the buds turned black. Today I went to inspect several pots of rose cuttings and found that several of them had this problem. The green leaves are only temporary. In a few days, the stems of your roses may all turn black.

The blackening of the buds tells us that there is something wrong with this rose. For normal rose cuttings, the leaves remain bright green or turn yellow and fall off automatically.

If you look closely, you will find that the buds have sprouted. There is no black bud phenomenon, which mostly occurs in summer. Why is this more likely to happen in summer?

1. The temperature is high in summer, and rose cuttings are prone to black stems

The temperature is relatively high in summer. If the rose cuttings are not handled properly, black stems and black buds are likely to appear. This phenomenon is mostly caused by bacterial infection. Cuttings in summer are prone to bacterial infection. You are not the only one who has this problem. You may have encountered this situation .

Solution : When taking rose cuttings in the summer, the scissors used to cut the rose branches must be disinfected, and the bottom of the rose branches must be disinfected before cuttings. The roots can be soaked in a solution of carbendazim or meconium-methyl. After sterilization and disinfection, the survival rate of rose cuttings will be higher.

2. There is a problem with the roots, too much watering or the soil in the pot is too dry

If there is a problem with the roots of the rose, the rose will also experience this situation. The buds will turn black, which means that the roots are insufficiently nourished and the rose has not taken root, or too much watering has caused the roots to rot.

This will result in the bottom not absorbing nutrients, and there will be no nutrients to supply the new buds above. If this is the case, your leaves will slowly die. It is not good if the pot soil is too dry, you must pay attention to maintenance.

Solution : You can dig a little from the side to check the roots. If there is a problem with the roots, or the roots below are not rooted, or the bottom layer has turned black, the new buds above will not grow well. At this time, you can spray some fungicides. If you water too much, you can change some potting soil or find a way to remove the water .

3. Pest problems

Rose thrips is a common pest of roses. Roses that have been harmed by it will also experience this situation, with the leaves appearing to be scorched and lifeless.

You can't see it during the day and it's hard to find it at night. It comes and goes without a trace and is hard to spot, but the leaves and flower buds bitten by it will become lifeless and deformed.

Solution : Spray some insecticide, 2000 times of imidacloprid solution, can effectively eliminate thrips. You can also use laundry detergent and water to spray.

[Summary] The blackening of rose buds may be caused by overexposure to the sun or fertilizer damage. Why do I say this? Because some novices who are taking rose cuttings put the roses in the sun as soon as they see the buds sprout, thinking that they will grow faster if exposed to the sun, or they will quickly fertilize them, which results in black buds on the roses.
