Indoor cultivation method of Nandina domestica potted plants (Introduction to Nandina domestica planting precautions)

Maintaining the environment

Nandina domestica likes warmth and a humid environment. The air temperature in its growing environment is between 50% and 70%. When the humidity is too low, the lower leaves will turn yellow and fall off, and the upper leaves will become dull.

The temperature of the place where Nandina domestica is maintained should not be higher than 32 degrees Celsius and not lower than zero degrees. When the temperature is not higher than 32 degrees Celsius, it can be maintained in full sun.

After keeping it outdoors for about a month, you should move it to a shaded place indoors for viewing, and repeat this process.

When Nandina domestica is kept in a location with sufficient light, the leaves will turn red and become more colorful.

If it is maintained in a shaded location, the red color will become lighter and less bright. When maintaining it, you can rotate the Nandina domestica outdoors and indoors at irregular intervals according to your preferences.

Watering

Nandina domestica has good drought tolerance and can be grown either wet or dry. Every time you water it, water it immediately when the surface of the planting material is dry, and water it thoroughly when it is dry and wet.

Then the growth of Nandina domestica will be faster, but the nodes between the leaves will be elongated.

The method of dry-raising Nandina domestica is: every time the surface of the Nandina domestica soil is dry, extend the watering for 2 to 3 days. Do "dry and wet alternately" and each dry and wet have a corresponding period of time .

During the dry period of the flower soil, you can spray Nandina domestica with water every day. This method of maintenance will shorten the branches and leaves, and the leaves will be smaller.

Nutrient supplementation

Fertilization is an essential step in the maintenance of Nandina domestica. More fertilizer can be applied in spring and autumn, and less fertilizer can be applied in winter and summer.

When applying fertilizer, mainly use organic fertilizer with balanced nutrients. "Nitrogen" can promote the growth of branches and leaves of Nandina domestica, "phosphorus and potassium" promote rooting, and when the Nandina domestica turns into red leaves, it can increase the brightness of the leaves.

We can apply fertilizer using "fermented sheep dung balls" by loosening the soil and burying them shallowly on the surface of the flower soil.

When the new leaves of Nandina domestica grow to about half the size of mature leaves, you can use a 1500 times aqueous solution of "potassium dihydrogen phosphate" to spray the leaves. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate can promote photosynthesis and increase the brightness of the red leaves of Nandina domestica.

Proper pruning

The trunk of Nandina domestica appears tall and thin, and pruning can control the shape of the plant, making it more ornamental.

During the period of vigorous growth, cut off the branches that sprout from the roots and the dense branches, cut off the branches with longer fruit clusters, and leave 3 to 5 main trunks of different heights to maintain the beautiful shape of the plant and facilitate flowering and fruiting.

After a few years of viewing, the main trunk of potted Nandina domestica will still grow taller and become disconnected, the branches and leaves will age and fall off, and the lower part will be blank and leafless. It can be pruned for shaping, and the main stem is generally left at about 15 to 25 cm. Pruning in spring can restore it to 1m in height in autumn, and the crown will be full.
