What is the green color on the glass wall?

The ornamental value of a glass fish tank lies in its surface. Most of the moss and algae grow on the surface of the fish tank, so it greatly affects the overall ornamental value of our fish tank.

Generally, if there is moss or algae in the fish tank , it means that the water quality of the fish tank is relatively good, so these plants can grow, so everyone should first realize that this is a good thing.

What causes green algae on the fish tank wall?

Usually, the green color on the inner wall of the fish tank is moss or algae, which is mostly caused by not changing the water in time, or the water in the fish tank is highly nutritious, or the lighting time is too long. We need to deal with this in time.

Difference Between Moss and Green Algae

The green algae on the wall of the fish tank is still moss. First of all, we need to distinguish the relationship between moss, green algae and green water.

① Green algae

Let’s talk about green algae first. As the name suggests, it is a type of algae, but it is different from the common brown algae we see.

Because brown algae grow on the wall of the fish tank , or only grow when there are stones attached to it. But green algae can grow directly floating in the water .

The reproduction of green algae is not as complicated as that of higher plants. Small green algae directly absorb nutrients from the water to grow , and then directly undergo cell division to expand the population.

In the entire biological world, no other organism has this kind of reproduction method. This fission method is like the nuclear fission of an atomic bomb. Simply put, it is 1 divided into 2, then 2 divided into 4, then 4 divided into 8, and so on, and more and more.

Therefore, when the water body is eutrophic and nutrients are sufficient, the outbreak of green algae only takes a few days .

Therefore, when green algae erupts on a large scale and the concentration is relatively high, the water looks green, which is what we often call green water. So green algae and green water can basically be said to be the same thing.

However, in addition to a large amount of green algae, green water also contains other microorganisms. To put it simply, most of the green water is composed of green algae. Therefore, it is very appropriate to use the term "green water" to describe water bodies rich in green algae.

Because there are microorganisms in green water, some newly born fish, especially ovoviviparous fish, such as guppies, Mary fish, and Mickey fish, are typical and common ovoviviparous fish.

Newly born fish have a relatively sufficient food source in green water, that is, the microorganisms in the green water, and even green algae can serve as food for them.

However, there are a lot of green algae in the green water. Although green algae release oxygen during photosynthesis during the day, they also need to consume a lot of oxygen for breathing at night.

And there is no sunlight at night, so the green algae cannot carry out photosynthesis and cannot produce oxygen. Therefore, they will consume a lot of oxygen in the water of the fish tank at night.

Therefore, if you use green water to raise goldfish or koi fish, which consume a lot of oxygen, the density must not be too large, otherwise there is a high risk of hypoxia at night.

② Moss

Moss is much more advanced than green algae because it is a high-level plant. This also means that moss belongs to the same level as our common flowers, plants and trees, and is considered a moss plant.

Green algae are just algae, which belong to lower plants. Therefore, the cell structure in moss is much more complicated than that in green algae . In fact, moss is not only found in water bodies, but also in dark and humid corners. We can easily see the growth of moss.

Because of this, moss can play a better role in purifying water, while green algae or green water cannot achieve such an effect . At the same time, the formation conditions of moss are more stringent than those of green algae.
