How to take cuttings of keel flowers?

Growing keel flowers indoors can protect against radiation, but the juice of keel flowers is poisonous. Be careful not to touch it during maintenance to avoid harming your body. To propagate keel flowers, cuttings are generally chosen, which is relatively simple to operate and has a relatively high survival rate.

Time for cutting of keel flower

Dragon bone flowers are usually chosen to be cut from May to September each year , because the climate at this time is more suitable, which is conducive to the growth and development of dragon bone flowers. The temperature in winter is too low and the temperature in summer is too high, which is not suitable for cuttings, and the survival rate will be slightly lower.

Steps for cutting of keel flower

1. Prepare the soil

Prepare the substrate before cutting. You can choose loose humus soil . It is recommended to mix vermiculite, pearl powder particles and pure river sand evenly as the cutting substrate.

2. Choose cuttings

First, select healthy branches from the keel plant and avoid sick and weak branches . Then use sterilized scissors to cut off 10-20 cm, apply plant ash on the upper and lower cuts, and place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry for about 7-10 days. After the cut of the plant is dry, you can start cuttings.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a suitable flowerpot, fill it with cutting medium, and use chopsticks to poke holes in the soil, 3-5 cm deep. Insert the processed keel cuttings into the holes and compact the surrounding soil . After inserting, water the cuttings and then place them in a sunny place for maintenance. Water less during the rooting period, and follow the principle of not watering unless the soil is dry.

Maintenance of keel flower after cutting

After the cuttings of the dragon bone flower, water the potted plant, and then place it in a well-ventilated and temperature-appropriate place for maintenance. However, try to reduce watering during the rooting period and follow the principle of not watering unless it is dry. It can be exposed to the sun after cuttings, but not all day, as this will easily cause the leaves of the dragon bone flower to dry and turn yellow.
