How to propagate Haworthia by cuttings How to propagate Haworthia by cuttings

Haworthia is a succulent plant with many varieties, including Jade Dew, Longevity, Vientiane, and Jade Fan. It has strong vitality and can grow well without careful care. Haworthia can be propagated by cuttings, and the cutting method is simple and has a high survival rate.

Cutting time of Haworthia striata

Haworthia can be propagated by cuttings in autumn and winter, and the plants grow faster in these two seasons. In the high temperature of summer, Haworthia enters a dormant period and stops growing. Haworthia propagated by cuttings in spring cannot grow quickly in summer, so it is not recommended to propagate in spring.

How to propagate Haworthia succulenta by cuttings

1. Selection of potting soil

The soil should be loose and fertile with good drainage . Many flower lovers prepare their own nutrient soil, which is composed of garden soil and fine sand in a ratio of 1:1. One and a half spoons of bone meal should be added to every 9 kilograms of nutrient soil.

2. Choose branches

After the Haworthia striata blooms, many adventitious buds will grow between the inflorescence nodes. You can choose the side buds as cuttings, or you can choose the top buds as cuttings .

To remove the terminal bud, peel it off 7 cm from the upper part of the plant, so that new buds can germinate faster. After the terminal bud is removed, it must be dried in the sun, and it can be used for cuttings only after the wound is dry.

3. Take cuttings

After the wound of the cuttings is dry, you can directly insert it into the prepared soil , and then move the pot to a bright place. Water it after the pot soil is dry, and wait until the striped Haworthia takes root, and then move the pot to a well-lit place.

Maintenance of Haworthia after cutting

After the cuttings of Haworthia are completed, water them thoroughly once and place them in a cool place to avoid direct sunlight. No more watering is required during this period. Haworthia cuttings in winter need to be covered with plastic bags to keep the leaves and flower pots warm, and poke a few holes for ventilation.
