Usually you can choose to propagate by cuttings, and the operation of cutting rosemary is very simple, and the survival rate is relatively high. It is a very common way to propagate rosemary.

When is the best season to take cuttings of rosemary?

The time for rosemary cuttings is generally chosen in spring and autumn , because the climate is warm at this time, which is exactly the growth period of rosemary, which is conducive to the rooting and survival of rosemary cuttings.

How to propagate rosemary

1. Prepare the soil

Rosemary cuttings require loose, fertile soil with good drainage . You can prepare garden soil and river sand, mix them in a 5:5 ratio as the culture soil.

2. Choose cuttings

Select healthy and sturdy semi-lignified branches from 1-2 year-old rosemary plants, cut off 8-12 cm with sterilized scissors, cut off the base leaves, and keep 2-3 tender leaves on the top. The bottom cut is trimmed into an oblique surface, and rooting powder is applied, and placed in a semi-shaded place to dry.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a flower pot of the right size, pad the bottom of the pot with some ceramsite, fill it with culture soil, and smooth the soil. Use chopsticks to poke a few holes about 1-3 cm deep, insert the cuttings into the holes, and slightly compact the surrounding soil . After spraying water to keep it moist, place it in a shaded place for maintenance. When the soil is dry, water it in time, use an appropriate amount, and transplant it to a new pot after it takes root.

Rosemary cuttings maintenance

After cutting rosemary, you must pay attention to placing it in a suitable location for maintenance. After 3 to 4 weeks, rosemary can be kept in a place with more light. You should slightly reduce the amount of watering , because rosemary is a shrub plant, and frequent watering can easily cause root rot and disease.
