When is the best season to plant wintersweet? Wintersweet planting time and method

There are four main steps to growing wintersweet, namely, seed processing, germination, planting, and water and fertilizer management. The potting soil after planting wintersweet should be kept in a semi-dry and semi-moist state. In rainy seasons, proper drainage is required to prevent water accumulation. In dry seasons, the number of watering should be increased to keep the potting soil dry.

Wintersweet planting season

Wintersweets can be planted in spring and autumn . The temperature and humidity in these two periods are very suitable for the growth of wintersweets. If wintersweets are planted in a greenhouse , they can be planted all year round .

Wintersweet planting method

1. Seed processing

First, select some mature and plump seeds , then wash them in clean water, and then remove the seeds floating on the water surface. These floating seeds are generally rotten and cannot germinate. Treat the selected seeds with gibberellin and then place them in a ventilated environment for 1-2 days .

2. Germination

The seed shell of wintersweet is relatively hard, so it cannot germinate directly. The seeds need to be soaked in water at a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius for a day . Then bury them in moist sand and spray water once a day. It takes about a month for them to germinate and take root.

3. Planting

For the cultivation of wintersweets, you can choose some acidic sandy soil with good drainage, and add some bean cake and compost to increase nutrients. Insert the germinated seedlings into the sandy soil , then water them thoroughly, press the soil surface with your hands, and then cover it with a thin layer of soil.

4. Water and fertilizer management

In the cultivation process of wintersweet, it is best to keep the pot soil in a semi-dry and semi-moist state . In rainy seasons, proper drainage is needed to prevent water accumulation. In dry seasons, the number of watering should be increased and the pot soil should be kept dry.

In spring and summer, the principle of not watering unless the soil is dry and watering thoroughly when you do is to be followed. Fertilizer should be applied every half a month, and additional phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied in summer .

Best time to transplant wintersweet

However, March in early spring is more suitable for the growth of wintersweet, because at this time, the flowering period of wintersweet has ended, but new buds have not yet grown out, so it is a good time for transplanting .
