There are three main steps in tomato planting, namely, seed processing, planting, and water and fertilizer management. The appropriate time to plant tomatoes should be determined based on factors such as the planting season, climatic conditions, cultivation methods, and seedling facilities.

If it is cultivated in the open field in spring, it is usually planted in February or March . If it is cultivated in the open field in autumn, it is usually planted in October or December . This period is suitable for growing tomatoes. In the greenhouse, tomatoes can be grown all year round .

How to grow tomatoes

1. Seed treatment

If you want to grow delicious tomatoes, you must pay attention to the treatment of seeds. Generally, we should choose seeds that are mature, plump and without wounds for planting .

First, you need to seal and ferment the selected seeds at room temperature for about 2-4 days, which can increase the germination rate of tomatoes. After washing them with clean water, soak them in warm water for 3-6 hours, which can increase the survival rate of tomatoes.

2. Planting

Before planting, you need to mix the organic fertilizer with the soil evenly and spread the softened seeds evenly on the soil , but be careful not to spread them too densely, as this will be detrimental to seed germination.

Then cover the seeds with fine soil and you can water them. It is recommended to use the spray method and just keep the soil moist.

3. Water and fertilizer management

During the growth of tomatoes, it is also necessary to pay attention to topdressing to promote the growth of tomatoes. Topdressing can be combined with watering. Topdressing is required 7-10 days after the tomatoes are planted. Generally, 500 kg of farmyard manure is required per mu, which can promote the accelerated growth of tomato seedlings.

It is also necessary to spray the tomatoes with foliar fertilizer in time. When the tomatoes grow the sixth leaf, they need to be sprayed with foliar fertilizer. In the subsequent maintenance, the tomatoes generally need to be watered every 3-5 days. Watering only needs to keep the soil moist. Too much watering will cause the tomatoes to grow too tall.
