Celery Refrigerator Germination Method Celery Germination Temperature and How Many Days

Celery Seed Germination Conditions

The biggest problem in growing celery may be the time of sowing and germination. Celery is not easy to germinate, especially autumn celery sown in summer. If the seeds are not treated, the germination will be very slow, or no germination will occur, or the germination will be uneven.

Celery likes cool weather, the suitable temperature for growth is 15-25℃, and the suitable temperature for seed germination is 15-20℃ . Moreover, celery seeds are light-loving seeds, and they germinate faster with light during the germination process.

Celery Refrigerator Germination Method

1. Seed soaking

First soak the seeds in room temperature water. The soaking time is related to the water absorption characteristics of the seeds. Celery seeds are relatively small, the surface is relatively wrinkled, and the water absorption is relatively slow, so the soaking time of celery seeds is relatively long, which takes about 24 hours.

2. Refrigerator germination

Wrap the soaked seeds with a wet cloth and put them in the refrigerator between 6 and 8 p.m. every day , and take them out for cleaning at 7 or 8 a.m. the next day. Then put them in a room temperature environment, cover them with a wet cloth to keep them moist but partially transparent, and put them in the refrigerator in the afternoon.

Repeat this process, and observe frequently during the period. The seeds will begin to germinate after two days of germination . If 30% of the seeds are white after three days of germination, you need to sow them quickly, otherwise the seedlings will grow too long and be easily damaged during sowing, affecting germination.

Celery seedling cultivation and sowing methods

1. Planting

Celery is sown in a 128-hole tray. During the germination period, nutrient soil should be prepared. Celery seedlings take a long time, about 50 to 60 days, so organic fertilizer and a small amount of chemical fertilizer should be added to the nutrient soil to maintain adequate nutrient supply.

On the day of sowing, add water to the nutrient soil and mix well before sowing. The sowing hole should not be too deep, 0.5-1cm is enough. Put 1-2 seeds in each hole, cover the soil after sowing, and then water.

2. Seedling management

Before the true leaves grow, the root system has weak absorption capacity, so water it frequently. When the light is too strong at noon, provide shade for 2-4 hours.

After the true leaves grow, reduce watering to promote root growth. Water once every 1-2 days. Try not to shade the plant, otherwise it will grow too tall. At this time, you can transplant the seedlings and plant the double seedlings in places where there are shortages.

Since the seedling period is very long, prevent the lack of nutrients in the nutrient soil. You can spray foliar fertilizer 2-3 times, once every 10 days. Celery seedlings may have damping-off disease in summer, spray carbendazim or metalaxyl-M 1-2 times.

3. Transplanting

In mid-to-late August, celery seedlings can be transplanted to the field. When preparing the land, it is necessary to disinfect the field with insects and fungi, otherwise underground pests will be very serious. Celery can be harvested in November and the harvest will continue until before New Year's Day.
