1. Time Selection

The best time is from early to mid-May, but it will vary depending on the climate of the region. The Yangtze River Basin has a relatively mild climate, so it can be done in April. The temperature during this period is very suitable for the growth of plants, and is also conducive to the germination of new buds and the growth of new branches. Note that in March and April before pruning, it needs to be transferred to a suitable temperature and managed so that nutrients can be accumulated and it can recover faster after pruning.

2. Methods

1. Overgrown branches will seriously affect the ornamental value. The first task is to cut off the overgrown branches. Only leave 3-4 buds at the base, or about 10 cm, and remove the rest of the branches above. If the growth is weak and it seems that there is no vitality in the later stage, it should be cut off from the base.

2. Reduce apical dominance. The growth space is limited, so you can remove the top according to your preference, or you can do it at the same time when repotting. This can prevent the plant from only growing taller with very few side branches.
