What is the best season to plant sweet potatoes? Sweet potato planting time and method

When planting sweet potatoes, the first thing to do is to choose a field with fertile soil, loose soil, good air permeability, and easy watering. The tubers in such a field have a smoother surface and rarely have cracks. In addition, sweet potatoes contain relatively less fiber, so the taste of the grown sweet potatoes will be better.

Sweet potato planting time

The best time to plant sweet potatoes is between April and May every spring , but usually they are raised in greenhouses in spring and transplanted outdoors in early summer. The best time to plant is in mid-May , when the temperature is basically stable at 15-20 degrees, and the sweet potatoes planted at this time can germinate quickly.

Sweet potato planting method

1. Seed selection

Sowing sweet potatoes is relatively simple, but choosing the right seeds is the key to high yields. Therefore, when selecting seeds, you need to observe whether the sweet potato seed potatoes are strong and disease-free, and then choose varieties with larger size and more buds for sowing .

2. Planting

First , soak the sweet potato seed potatoes in the solution of polysaccharides for about 10 minutes, then take them out for sowing . When sowing, you must distinguish the head and tail, otherwise the seedlings will grow unevenly. If you really can't distinguish them, you can put them at an angle, then sprinkle a layer of dead grass and rotten wood on the seed potatoes, and then cover them with a small amount of soil.

If you are worried that the temperature will not meet the requirements, you can cover it with a layer of plastic film for insulation. When the sweet potato seedlings grow to 30-40cm, remove the plastic film, cut off the stems and leaves of the seedlings, and then cut them into small sections with 3 leaves as a section for cuttings. When cutting, it is generally appropriate to keep each plant about 30cm apart.
