How to take root of a large-leafed crabapple tree by cuttings

Spring and autumn are suitable for cuttings of big-leaf begonia. The temperature in summer and winter will rise or fall, which will affect the rooting of big-leaf begonia. When cutting, choose strong top branches as cuttings, soak them in rooting water and insert them into suitable soil, avoid direct sunlight, and wait for about a month for rooting.

When to take cuttings of crabapple

The cuttings of the big-leaf begonia need to be done at the right time. It likes warmth and can be cut as long as the temperature is above 15°C . It is usually done in spring and autumn . If the temperature is too low after cutting, the rooting speed is very slow and the survival rate is also very low.

Rooting method of cuttings of large-leaf begonia

1. Requirements for cuttings

When taking cuttings of big-leaf begonia, you can choose sturdy top branches as cuttings. The length should be about 10 cm, and it is most suitable to have 2-3 buds. Note that there should be no flower buds on the cuttings, and the leaves at the base of the cut cuttings can be cut off.

2. Prepare the soil

In order to make the cuttings take root faster after cuttings, it is necessary to prepare soil suitable for the growth of big-leaf begonia. Cuttings can be made with clean river sand and rotten leaf soil. If the substrate used is too thick, the cuttings will not take root because they cannot breathe. Disinfect before use to avoid affecting rooting.

3. Cutting method

Insert the processed big-leaf begonia cuttings into suitable soil. The cutting depth should be half of the cuttings. Compact the soil around the cuttings. Water appropriately to keep the substrate slightly moist.

Begonia cutting maintenance

After cutting, the big-leaf begonia needs to be well maintained and managed, providing a semi-shaded and well-ventilated environment. The temperature should be controlled between 20-22 degrees. When the air is dry, water should be sprayed around the cuttings frequently. It will take about 20-30 days for the big-leaf begonia to take root, and it can be planted when its root system grows steadily.
