The role and use of rooting agents 8 methods and recipes for making your own rooting agents

Rooting agents can promote plant rooting. Roots are like the mouths of plants, absorbing nutrients and water, maintaining plant growth, and flowering and fruiting. Only when the root system grows well can high yields be achieved.

Rooting agent ingredients

Rooting agents are auxin compounds that belong to the class of plant growth regulators and promoters. In vegetable production applications, they include indoleacetic acid, indolebutyric acid, naphthylacetic acid, Yugensheng, br rooting agent, sodium nitrophenolate and many other ingredients .

The role of rooting agent

1. Promote plant rooting

Rooting agent is a type of plant growth regulator. Its function is to promote plant rooting, and it is very effective in cutting propagation of plants. Different plants have different sensitivities to rooting agents, so it is better to mix two or more rooting agents.

2. Promote the growth of new roots

In addition to promoting the rooting of cuttings, during the tree transplanting process, the roots are dipped or sprayed with a rooting agent solution, which can encourage the transplanted trees to grow more new roots and improve the survival rate of transplanting.

How to use rooting agent

1. Soak the lower part of the cuttings with low concentration rooting agent

It is to soak the lower part of the cutting branches, such as rose cutting branches, in a low-concentration rooting agent aqueous solution. Soaking it in an aqueous solution of 50 mg/kg of indolebutyric acid and naphthaleneacetic acid for 1 hour can significantly promote the rooting of branches during the cutting seedling process.

2. Treat cuttings with high concentration rooting agent solution

Treat the cuttings with a high concentration of rooting agent solution for a short time, such as 1000 mg/kg indolebutyric acid, or other rooting agent alcohol solution. Soak the lower part of the cuttings for 3-5 seconds, dry them, and then cut them. This also has a good effect on promoting rooting.

3. Grind into powder for use

First dissolve the rooting agent in alcohol, then mix it with talcum powder, dry it in the shade, and grind it into powder. When using it, wet the branches with water, then dip them in this powder before cutting.

The biggest advantage of this treatment method is that it saves chemicals. After being made into dry powder, the rooting agent can maintain its vitality for a longer time. However, the rooting agent in aqueous solution can maintain its vitality for a shorter time and will become ineffective after 3 days at room temperature.

How to make rooting agent

1. Rice vinegar water solvent

Choose high-quality rice vinegar and mix it with cold boiled water at a ratio of 1:100 to make a rice vinegar solution, which is suitable for soaking fruit tree cuttings such as grapes. When using, soak the lower part of the cuttings in the solution for 8-12 hours and then take them out for cuttings. This can significantly improve the survival rate and make the cuttings grow faster and stronger.

2. Aspirin solvent

Soaking cuttings in 0.01% aspirin solution can significantly increase the germination rate. Soaking transplanted seedlings in 0.05% aspirin solution can shorten the seedling acclimatization period, prevent the seedlings from drying up, and increase the survival rate.

3. Vitamin B12 solvent

Take medical vitamin B12 injection and dilute it with cold boiled water to 1 times, soak the lower part of the cutting in the dilution for 5 minutes before cutting. It can promote root growth and tissue healing.

4. Willow branch extract

Remove the leaves from the young willow branches with green leaves and cut them into short branches of 4-8 cm. Soak 1 kg of willow branches in 1.5-2 kg of clean water for about 10 days to make willow rooting liquid.

5. Sucrose solvent

Take sucrose and mix it with boiling water to make a 5%-10% sucrose solution. After it cools naturally, immerse the base of the cuttings of flowers that are easier to root, such as roses, figs, wolfberries, poinsettias, etc. in the sugar solution for 4-6 hours before implanting them.

6. Honey water solvent

When flowers are propagated asexually, growth hormones are usually used to promote rooting of cuttings. If there is no growth hormone, the cuttings can be dipped in honey and then cut to increase the survival rate and promote rooting.

7. Potassium permanganate solvent

Soak the base of the cuttings in 0.1%-0.5% potassium permanganate solution for 10-12 hours, and then take them out and plant them immediately.

8. Hormone solvent

Some cuttings are prone to gum flow, so they should be placed in water immediately after harvesting and then treated with hormones. Commonly used hormones include acetic acid, rooting agents, etc. It is better to make a vertical wound at the base of the cuttings before treatment.

For hard branches, a 5-10ppm dilution is generally used, and the base of the cuttings is immersed in it for 12-24 hours; for tender branches, a 10-25ppm solution is generally used, and the solution is immersed for 12-24 hours.
