How to propagate roses with high survival rate? Rose propagation time and rapid rooting method

Roses are often propagated by cuttings, which has a high success rate and is easy to operate. If you are worried that the rose varieties you raise at home are not growing well, you can try to "copy" more rose seedlings in case of emergency.

Rose cutting time

The time for rose cuttings is generally from April to June in spring , or from October to November in autumn . The success rate of rose cuttings propagation is the highest in these two time periods.

It should be noted that cuttings should not be taken in hot summer or cold winter. Even if it is successful, the growth of the seedlings will not be good, and the leaves will turn yellow and the rhizomes will rot easily in the later stage.

Rose cutting method

1. Choose branches

Cut off the lignified branches from the healthy rose plants, about 10-15 cm in length. Remove all the leaves at the bottom, leaving 3-4 buds, and cut the lower end of the branches into an oblique cut to increase the water absorption area and speed up the rooting speed.

2. Prepare the potting soil

Roses prefer loose, fertile, air-permeable and well-drained acidic soil. It is best to mix humus soil and garden soil in equal proportions. Generally, a small amount of river sand can be added to increase good drainage. There is no need to apply base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot soil to avoid adverse effects on the plants.

3. Take cuttings

Use a wooden stick to dig a hole about 5 cm deep in the prepared soil, and insert the treated branches into the hole. Compact the surrounding soil, cover it with plastic film to seal it, and then water it once to keep the soil moist.

Rose cutting rooting

After the rose is cut, a warm growth environment should be provided, and the temperature should be controlled at around 23-27℃. It should not be too high or too low to avoid affecting the normal growth of its roots.

In addition, after the rose cuttings are taken, you can water it according to the dryness and wetness of the soil to keep the soil moist. Do not water it too much to avoid water accumulation.
