Mint Growth HabitMint, also known as silver dan grass, has many ways to propagate. When growing at home, you can choose mint seeds for planting . Although mint seeds are small, as long as the germination method is correct, and you choose a well-ventilated clay pot and sandy soil, you can basically plant it successfully. Mint likes a warm environment, but it also has a certain degree of cold resistance, and can withstand low temperatures of -15°C. The temperature suitable for its growth needs to be maintained at around 25-30°C. Moreover, mint is a long-day crop , and long light hours can promote flowering and growth. In terms of soil, it can be planted in general soil, preferably fertile and loose sandy loam and alluvial soil. Steps to Planting Mint Seeds1. Seed germination Soak the mint seeds in warm water between 40 and 45 degrees for 5 hours to allow the seeds to absorb enough water, then place the seeds in a foam box and ensure that the temperature is between 18 and 25 degrees. Then place the foam box in a semi-shaded environment, cover it with a layer of moist gauze, spray water regularly every day, and the seeds will germinate in about 3 weeks. 2. Pot soil treatment Choose a clay flower pot with good air permeability, and then use sandy soil with strong water-holding ability and air permeability before planting. Then, place the pot soil in the sun for about 3 days to completely kill the bacteria and parasites in the pot soil, and then put the soil into the clay flower pot and water it appropriately. 3. Planting Place the germinated mint seedlings on the soil surface. Don't place them too close together, leave a distance of 20 cm between them. After planting, sprinkle a layer of planting soil on the seedlings. It doesn't need to be too thick, about 3 cm is enough. Things to note when growing mint1. Soil preparation requirements Mint has a very high ornamental value and is usually grown in potted plants. It can be planted with garden soil plus a little humus. The soil can be mixed in a 1:1 ratio. There is no need to add base fertilizer, and it can grow well and healthily. 2. Temperature control and wintering The best temperature for mint growth is between 25 and 30 degrees. When it is below 15 degrees, the growth becomes slow. As long as the temperature is above 20 degrees, liquid fertilizer is applied once a week, and mint grows quickly. In addition, mint can also withstand low temperatures . In winter, the temperature can drop to minus 15 degrees, and the roots can survive the winter and grow again in spring. 3. Pests and diseases The main disease of mint is black leg disease, which often occurs in the seedling stage. You can use 70% chlorothalonil for spraying to prevent it. The more common insect pest is bridge-building insect, which often occurs in the high temperature and high humidity environment in summer. You can use 80% DDT for spraying to prevent and control it. |
