Geraniums are adaptable to a wide range of environments, so many people are willing to keep a few gorgeous and beautiful geraniums at home. The breeding methods include cuttings, sowing and tissue culture. Among them, cuttings are the most commonly used method. When cutting, you need to pay attention to the cutting time, branches and potting soil selection. Cutting timeGeraniums are usually propagated by cuttings in spring and autumn , which are the seasons when geraniums grow faster and the survival rate of cuttings is higher at this time. Do not propagate cuttings in summer, which is the dormant period of geraniums. It is difficult for cuttings to survive at this time, and the cuttings are prone to rot. Cutting stepsThe first step is to choose potting soil : Geranium is suitable for growing in loose, fertile, breathable and water-permeable slightly acidic soil. The soil can be prepared by mixing half perlite and half peat, or by mixing river sand, leaf mold and vermiculite in a ratio of 3:3:4. Step 2: Cuttings : Choose a well-grown branch with 2-3 buds on the top of the geranium and cut it to 10 cm. Soak the branch in carbendazim for disinfection, and then soak the base of the cutting in 0.01% indoleacetic acid, which will help the cutting to take root quickly. Then put the cutting in a cool place to dry. Step 3, cuttings : Insert the branches into the prepared soil. First, dig a hole of appropriate size, then gently place the cuttings in, slightly compact the surrounding soil to allow the branches to stand upright, then water with an appropriate amount of water to keep the soil moist. Precautions for maintenance after cuttingAfter geranium cuttings, place it in a semi-shaded, well-ventilated location and control the temperature between 13 and 18 degrees. It will take about 15-20 days to take root . After taking root, carry out normal maintenance and it will bloom after six months. 1. Water thoroughly once After the geranium branches are planted, you can water them thoroughly once. When watering, you must be careful and slow to let the water flow slowly into the pot soil. This is to avoid splashing soil and causing fungi, and also to prevent the newly cut geranium plants from crooked. 2. Maintain the environment Place it in a warm and ventilated place. In order to ensure faster rooting, the maintenance temperature must be kept between 18 and 25 degrees. We can place it in an east-facing position with appropriate scattered light every morning. 3. Watering during the rooting period During the rooting and germination period, you must pay attention to regular watering, and watering should be done slowly and carefully. During the cutting period, the potting soil should be kept slightly moist, but not too wet. If the soil is dry three centimeters below the surface, water it thoroughly once in time. |
