Saffron potted cultivation method

1. Matrix selection

Saffron has certain requirements for the soil. You can choose fertile, loose, humus-rich, well-drained sandy soil with a pH value of 5.5-6.5. Avoid waterlogging or heavy soil compaction.

2. Nutrient management

After the soil for saffron is prepared, you can apply fertilizers such as wood ash, cake fertilizer, manure, chicken and duck manure to the soil. After it takes root and sprouts leaves, you can apply a thin layer of fertilizer every ten days until the flower buds appear. After flowering, apply one or two more fertilizers to promote the development and growth of the bulb.

3. Water management

Saffron likes a humid environment. The dry winter and spring with little rain are its growing season. It is necessary to pay attention to increasing the amount of watering. It should be watered once in mid-April to reduce the harm of dry and hot winds.

4. Lighting management

Saffron prefers an environment with plenty of light. Its peak growth period is in autumn, so there is no need for shade treatment. The best light duration is 4-6 hours a day, but the growth temperature must not exceed 30 degrees. The most suitable temperature for flowering is 18-24 degrees. The temperature for wintering management should not be lower than 5 degrees.
