Planting method of peony root tuber with buds

Planting method of peony root tuber with buds

1. Level the land

Before planting, the land must be leveled first. If it is planted in the ground, a good location must be selected. A place with deep soil is conducive to planting and there must be sufficient sunlight. If you choose potted planting, prepare the loam in advance. It is best to use nutritious sandy soil and apply base fertilizer underneath to ensure good drainage.

2. Choose the root block

Dig out the peony roots in autumn and choose plants with good growth conditions. It is best if the roots are relatively thick and of uniform length. Cut off the larger roots for medicinal use, and leave the root pieces with buds for planting. It is best to have 2-3 thick buds on each root piece, so that the survival rate is higher.

3. Planting time

The general planting time is around late August to September each year. The time cannot be too late, otherwise the roots will have sprouted, and planting again will affect the yield.

4. Planting

Dig a small hole in the soil, add enough water, cover with soil and compact it, then place the root tuber in for planting with the bud tip facing upwards. After planting, build up a layer of soil about 10 cm thick on top. Pay attention to maintenance after planting, weed after the seedlings emerge, and pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and pests.
