Can chives be planted all year round? Which month is the best to plant them?

Chives are native to Southeast Asia, with the more distinctive production areas being Hebei, Shandong, Hunan, Hubei and other regions. They are widely distributed in my country and can be grown throughout the country, with slightly different varieties depending on local climate habits.

Leek planting time

Now leeks can be grown in greenhouses all year round . They grow better in winter than in summer. The suitable sowing time for autumn leeks is from White Dew to Autumnal Equinox. Sowing in winter depends on the temperature.

Spring is suitable for planting in most areas, and sowing should be completed in early May. In provinces such as Shandong, sowing should be carried out in mid-March. In summer, sowing can only be carried out under shading measures.

Chive growth temperature

The growth temperature of leeks varies according to the stage. The temperature during the germination period is best controlled between 15 and 18 degrees, and must not be lower than 12 degrees.

The suitable temperature for seedlings during the growth stage is between 12 and 18 degrees. When it reaches the vigorous growth period, the most suitable temperature is between 15 and 28 degrees. The temperature should not be too high or too low, otherwise it will affect the growth.

Leek growth cycle

The growth cycle of leek is three to four months, which is generally divided into three stages. The germination period takes about twelve to fifteen days, or even longer. The seedling period generally takes seventy to eighty days, and the fast-growing ones take sixty days. During the vigorous growth period, attention should be paid to the management of light and temperature.
