Tips for repotting bougainvillea in summer: methods and steps for repotting

Repotting bougainvillea in summer

Bougainvillea generally needs to be repotted after one to three years of care. The best time to repot is in March and April each spring. The temperature at this time is suitable to ensure the normal growth of Bougainvillea after repotting. Repotting in summer requires good timing, preferably in the morning and evening of early August.

1. The new soil used for repotting bougainvillea must be disinfected to avoid the presence of bacteria and insect eggs. After repotting, try to keep the soil moist and ventilated to facilitate the growth of new roots for the plant.

2. After repotting, Bougainvillea should not be placed in direct sunlight. In summer, attention should be paid to shading to prevent direct sunlight from causing the branches and leaves of the plant to evaporate water and dry out. Bougainvillea should be placed in a cool and ventilated place with scattered light.

How to repot bougainvillea in summer

1. Root pruning and drying

After removing the bougainvillea from the pot, all rotten, diseased and yellowed roots should be cut off, and rooting powder or benomyl should be applied to the roots. After disinfection, they should be dried before planting again.

2. Watering

After repotting and transplanting, bougainvillea needs to be watered appropriately to keep the soil moist, but do not water it in large quantities to avoid water accumulation in the soil, which will inhibit root respiration and be detrimental to the healthy growth of the plant.

3. Soil for repotting

When planting bougainvillea, you should choose loose and breathable soil. The bougainvillea potted plants grown at home can be mixed with humus, garden soil, and river sand and exposed to the sun for disinfection before use. To ensure good air permeability, you can also add some granular soil or perlite.
