Notes on repotting roses: the best time to repot

Things to note when repotting roses

The best time to repot roses is in early spring or autumn . Rose repotting should be done when the climate is relatively more suitable to reduce the damage to the roses. It is not suitable to repot in summer or winter. Overheating can also cause bacterial infection in roses, and low temperatures can cause frostbite.

When repotting roses, try to avoid damaging their roots. Water control should be done in advance. Before repotting roses, they should be properly disinfected and soaked. Then, soak the roots at the bottom of the roses in a disinfectant solution. This will allow the roses to quickly grow new roots and resume growth quickly.

Tips for repotting roses

1. Root pruning and drying

When repotting roses, you need to first trim the roots, cut off some old roots, diseased roots, and useless roots, and try to leave only some healthy roots, so that they can better absorb water and nutrients in the later stage and resume growth as soon as possible.

2. Soil for repotting

When repotting roses, generally choose loose, breathable, and well-drained soil. Place the pruned roses in the new soil, not allowing them to directly touch the bottom of the pot. Then turn the soil deep, apply some compound fertilizer, and cover with soil.

3. Watering

After the roses are repotted, water them thoroughly at one time until water flows out from the bottom of the pot. Then place the repotted roses in a cool, humid place, away from direct sunlight. It is best not to water them for about a week.
